truly the best norton commander clone for the windows console. lots of plugs-in available (ftp, archiving, file splitting/combining, process list, etc.). it is console only which may turn off some users but the benefit is the low resource and memory usage compared to other file managers (tops out about 6 mb with several plug-ins running vs.total commander (30mb) or speed commander (28 mb)). far commander can't view graphics files either, it relies on whatever viewer is installed on your systemif you were a heavy user of norton commander in the dos era (as i was) you will find far easy to use and configure. unfortunately there are other alternatives that mimic nc such as total commander, speed commander in addition to good freeware such as free commander and double commander.it is portable however and therefore has a place on a flash drive and since it is console it would work when booting into safe mode command prompt for deleting stubborn malware.highly recommended as an addition (but not replacement) to your primary file manager.

re: multimedia centre: well at least i can watch tv again. recording doesn't work, and most fatures are bare bones only, but it's better than nothing. re: new drivers: ati seems to have resolved some of the stability issues with the 1st set. no more bsod with quake iii, quake ii now runs fullscreen. now, if they'll just make 'em smp stable for my bp6...

good workhorse. can use a tweak here and there in my opinion, but it is mature and well supported and that's what matters.

there is a totally new interface & engine, the new av module is actually from vipre & the program runs well with little slowdown or bloat.the problem is ad-aware was years ago great but recently was dreadful, bloated & very resource hungry so it's going to take time for it to regain any sort of reputation esp with past users. - the pay version isn't expensive - time will tell but looking much better - worth a try now.

my only question is that this area is pretty crowded now with programs and do we really need another one?

does what it says but the interface and the intrusive pop-ups are just horrible.

from the forum on their website, though it doesn't list .143fbackup 4.2 build 140 was released. this new version contains several important changes, update is recommended.what's changed in fbackup 4.2.140:* new: added unicode filename support (files with non-standard characters can be easily backed up now)* new: fbackup is now compatible with 64-bit operating systems too* update: added "select columns" option in the right-click menu of the scheduler window (and 2 additional columns)* update: added a new button for "ignore all" during restore* update: sources can be modified now even after selecting a predefined backup job (this way a backup job can be used as a "template" for future backup jobs)you can download the new version here: fbackup 4.2.140 (the download page still shows version 4.1 because download.com takes a while to update, so use the above mentioned direct link to download the newest version).posted 2 weeks ago #in fbackup 4.2.141 and 4.2.142 several access violation errors were fixed.
