this program is brilliant especially for an alpha release, loads of features, unique effects and all pulled together in an interface specifically designed for sampling - only time will tell how long i will actually need to keep my sampler around :)

so far so good, no too big a foot print from the active scanner and nice configuration options. missed a 5 due to lack of a simple to update virus signature's.

the addition of a checkbox for mapped drives is good, cli switches can be cumbersome sometimes. i don't have a problem with the fixtool scanning every file on the pc, because viruses like this one will make a duplicate of itself in almost every folder on the pc; a virus like klez or magistr would try and trash every exe file on your pc. if you only want to scan your whole hd at once, that's what the full av product is for. these fixtools are only for a pinch, such as when the virus beat out your liveupdate defs.

i have tried puran defrag on xp-sp3 and win7 home premium on separate pcs. on both occasions i found that the defragger works ok as long as you don't select the boot time defrag piozr tech that they claim is their usp. this feature seems to corrupt certain files on the system.on xp, i found i just could not boot up again, while on win7, i was unable to connect to the internet through my lan connector. on both occasions i was smart enough to maintain a backup disc image, which saved me from hours of redoing everything. although the software gave some improvement over the results i got from other defraggers, i still feel that there is something they really need to do about these issues.

not a bad cleaning program. a nice alternative to ccleaner. only thing strange i noticed, it deleted my links in my bookmarks toolbar. in firefox. luckily the firefox bookmarks get backed regularly, and i was able to restore it.

after using asc pro ( up to v.3.30), as well as many other "cleaner" programs, i find it to be a reliable program that can only be made better if its developers keep it from becoming tooooo big, and focus their attention on the basic need for good file and reg cleaning.what users need to realize is that asc, like any similar program, can be very destructive if you don't make a point to set it up according to your system needs, most important is choosing options and using the "ignore list' in order to avoid loosing unprotected files/reg entries. this is often why people blame the program whenever something goes horribly wrong. i've had this argument many times with others that feel that the software should be non-destructive if you don't mess with the options menu, but that's simply impossible considering that all systems are basically unique as far as software/hardware configurations are concerned. the point is that if you find it too complex to set up then use a safer & less effective program. like that you won't have any major a result, you have to do a bit of work in order to tweak any program that you need to work well for you.

granted a good programmer can write good code. but structured programming from the basic world is no longer adapted for object oriented programming. unless i am unfortunate but what i have seen is that developers used to the structured programing approach don't transition well to oop. the old habits which have some remnants in syntax and style are minor. the abuse of broad scoping in variables, & method is already more annoying. the tendency of designing a class as a "module" which results in a monolithic class "do everything", the lack of encapsulation, the little use of inheritance (if ever), etc. are clearly a maintenance burden. even though a class designed in a "basic" way of thinking fulfills perfectly the requirements. the only problem is a higher maintenance effort.even an excellent implementation of basic will be subject to subtle side effects and will suffer some difficulties to cope with specs change. because it doesn't have the facilities of abstraction, inheritance, polymorphism, etc. that oop provides.and as unbelievable as it could appears, i know quite well basic actually (or may be too well?). i have learn oop and forced myself to think oop. writing good code that works is fine. writing robust code, side-effects free, which evolves better with lower maintenance is better achieved with oop.if you think basic can still fit your coding needs then, by all means use it. the comments below are pretty much similar to what i used to get from "old school" senior developers. i have no trouble of people getting the job done. but in a team working with oop language and some developers still think the "basic" way, that hinders the team efforts and set bad example for junior developers.
